Seon Room
A quiet room in a small temple, where strangers sit together.
Seon Room is a free 3D room that opens in your web browser. You become a small, round little monk and sit in silence with whoever else happens to be there — sometimes one person, sometimes a hundred. There is no chat, no account and nothing to install.
Enter the roomWhat “Seon Room” means
Seon (선, 禪) is the Korean word for Zen. A seonbang (선방, 禪房) is the room in a Korean temple where monks sit in stillness. Seon Room is a small, open version of that room — for anyone, from anywhere. The name board above its door reads 禪房.
What you can do there
- Bow
- Palms together, a small bow to the people near you. They see that you bowed.
- Sit
- Take one of 100 floor cushions and stay as long as you like.
- Beads
- A full-screen string of beads you pull down one at a time. 108 beads make a round. Others see you holding them.
- Wood block
- Strike the moktak, a hollow wooden block, in one short rhythm.
- Ring the bell
- One bell for the whole room. After it rings, it rests for 30 seconds.
Questions
Is Seon Room free?
Yes. There is no account, no sign-up and no payment. It runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
Can I talk to the other people?
No. There is no chat and no place to type anything. You can bow to someone nearby, and they will see that you bowed. That is the whole conversation.
How is it different from a meditation app?
There is no guide voice, no timer, no streaks and no goals. Nothing tells you what to do. You just sit, and other people are sitting with you.
Do I need to know anything about meditation or temples?
No. There is nothing to learn and nothing to get right. Walk in, sit down, leave whenever you like.
How many people can be in one room?
Up to 100. When a room fills up, new visitors are taken to another one. The Share button gives you a link to your exact room, so a friend can come and sit next to you.
Who are the other people?
Real visitors, in the room at the same moment as you. Everyone gets a random, gentle name such as “Sleepy Otter”, and a new one on every visit.
What do you keep about me?
Nothing that identifies you. There is no account and you never type your name. Your bead count is saved only in your own browser. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Is there sound?
Yes, softly: the air of the room, and the bell, wood block and beads of the people near you. Sound starts only after you press Enter, and you can turn each part down in Settings. Far away, monks chant softly; you can switch that off in Settings too.
Which languages does it speak?
It follows your browser’s language, and you can switch at any time.
